Recently while installing the new print head on HP OJpro 8600, the users are facing an error called ‘failed printhead or missing printhead’. Random reasons are there for this error and we will give the appropriate solutions by the following steps. The main reason behind this error may be improper seating of print head in the printer. You may get any of the following prompts for printhead error,
‘The printhead not detected’/ ‘appears to be missing’/'not detected’/'incorrectly installed’
Steps to resolve
Follow the below steps in the given order until to get a solution for the error.
Always prefer the original HP ink cartridges
If you are using random ink cartridges other than cartridges from HP package, then first, replace it by the original one. HP doesn’t recommend to use incompatible cartridges for printing
Restarting
Don’t turn off the printer like the normal method. While it is turned on, directly disconnect the power cord and turn off. Wait for some minutes, plug back and restart the printer.
Printhead unseating
Unplug the power cord from the printer, turn off and open the cartridge access door. Lift the printhead, but don’t remove it completely
Reset again
Reset the printhead for multiple times and check out whether the error is cleared or not.
Remove and insert the ink cartridges
In some cases, because of improper positioning of ink cartridges in slots can also lead to this kind of error message. Ensure the slots are positioned by matching the right colors and fix the cartridges firmly.
Clean the ink cartridges
Gently clean the copper-colored contact of the ink cartridges and then insert again after a while. Now check for the error in the control panel.
Printer firmware updating
Access the HP official site 123.hp.com/setup and update the printer firmware to resolve the error.
In case, if you are unable to solve the error after all the above-mentioned steps, just replace the printhead.
